Danny, chairman of the Contemptibles Association reveals that ho haa a mortgage on a house, and had to meet £464 deficit. It js an ironical fact that Captain Danny, who himself was three times wounded, was, owing to his disability, unable at the last minute to accompany his comrades to Mons. Captain Danny states that on the strength of a woman telephoning an offer to subscribe £1000, which, however, was unfulfilled, he issued 200 invitations. Despite newspaper appeals, the public subscribed only £192.
