NGAROMA. CLUB

Although far frpm seasonable, the weather has not dampened the keenness of the members of the Ngaroma Croquet Club. Since the season opened several trophy and ladder matches have heen played. These have been keenly contested, and some very close games were witnessed. • The holders of the championship brooches, Mesdames Martin and Matthews', successfully defended the brooches up till Monday last, when they lost them to •Mesdames-Tre-gear and Hope. ;

Last week six members of the Eastbourne Croquet Club journeyed"to Petono and played friendly games against the Ngaroma Club. The games resulted as^ follows (Eastbourne players mentioned first) :-^-Mesdanies Andrews and Menzies, 26, v, Wadsworth and Packard, 18; Mesdames Hill and Eobinson, 19, v. Bennett ana Lippett, 26; Mesdames Young and Pilcher, 19, v. Laurie and Finch, 26. Last Saturday week a competition afternoon was held among the members, which was greatly enjoyed. The winners of the various events were as follow:—Golf: Mrs. Coles. Angles: Mrs. Laurie. French: Mrs. Martin. Tunnel: Mrs. Lippett. It is the intention of members to ■hold a competition afternoon some time during January in aid of the funds of the Petone Free Kindergarten. Havr ing four lawns, with spare grounds for competitions, also a large pavilion in which to dispense afternoon tea, good games a#d an enjoyable afternoon can be promised to members of other clubs and their friends.
