(By Telejraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") ti T,r . ,-. , NELSON,. This Day. The Men's Golf Club held a competition for tho junior championship in connection with the Cock Cup. The semifinals resulted in Ashby beating Milner, H. F. Allan beating Styche, and Elliott beating Low. Ashby now qualifies to meet the winner of the Elliott-Hoby match. Miss Acheson, the Nelson ladies' golf champion, will compete at the ladies' New Zealand championship at Palmerston North m October. Bho will also take part in other tournaments in tho North Island. The return match for the Moore-Reid I Cup, between Marlborough and Nelson, will be played on tho local links next weekend. 11ns cup was won by Marlborou"h irora Nelson a few weeks ago. The Leggatt Cup competition has reached the final stage, H. Dodson meeting either F. Snodgrasa and A. Mitchell with a view to final possession of the cup. In the final for the captain's trophy Huggins and N. Vercoe met, and after a very even game Huggins proved the winner, 2 up and 1. Huggins and Vercoe also met in the semifinal of the senior championship, and a close game followed, being ultimately won by Huggins, who thus qualifies to meet I. Dodds in the final. At the meeting of the Rotary Club today, Dr. Jamieson was congratulated on the honour secured by his son, SergeantMajor B. S. Jamieson (head Cadet, Neleon College). On 4th October the Ngaio, which has been taking the place of the Tamahine on the Picton run, will resume her usual position in the Wellington-Nelson run. The Ida Ora will load general 'cargo in Nelson for Home ports about 24th October. The local V.M.C.A. will hold a most attractive gymkhana, followed by a concert in the evening, when a full programme will be presented. The Waimea Defence Rifle Club held two seven-shot competitions at 300 yds. The highest scores were: First-class, L. Tomlinson, 31, 31, 6—63; H. Ching, 24, 28, 14----86; and R. Hammond, 25 30, 10—65; secondclaes, G. Y. Wearing, 28, 30, 10-88; K. Walker, 25, 31, 12-G8; and B. Wilson, 31, 29, B—BS. At a meeting of the Nelson Chamber of Commerce letters were received from the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce and the Farmers' Union, Auckland, relative to an increase in the honoraria of M.P.'s, and in the latter case re taxation. In both cases it was decided to take no action.' ■
