A CRICKET QUERY
The question is raised by a correspondent. ("Perplexed") as to why The Cygnets were not credited with a win over the New Zealand cricket team. Representative cricket matches in which no decision is reached on the second innings are accepted as drawn, except in the case of one-day games. The match between the New Zealand team and The Cygnets was o£ two days' duration, but as each side played only one ininngs (the home team leading)" the match was drawn. During the last Australian tour several two-day games were drawn, though in some cases the visitors had a lead of hundreds of runs on the first innings. For example, v at Chiswiek the Australians in a two-day match with Civil Service scored 454 runs for seven wickets, Civil Service replying with 59 runs in tber first innings and 93 for three wickets in their second. The match was drawn. Special provision is made for county and club championship competitions, in wheh points are scored for a lead on the first innings.
