THE WATER SCHEME
ALL MAIN POINTS CLEAR
ACT THIS SESSION?
From, inquiries made to-day, a "Post" reporter gathered that as a result of a series of conferences between representatives of the several local bodies concerned agreement has at last been reached on all main points in connection with the proposed Bill" for tho Greater Wellington, Hutt Valley, and Eastbourne water supply scheme, though certain details and points raised by some of the Government Departments whose lands or rights may be affected by the carrying out of the scheme have still to be adjusted. None of these points, it is understood, are such as to present serious obstacles, and there are therefore very bright prospects that the Bill will go through. '' Agreement on all main points'' will presumably mean that there has been no alteration so far in the proposed constitution of tho board of control, a point about which there has been a very great deal of discussion, for one camp maintained that a board somewhat on the Unes of the City and Suburban Highways Board was most desirable, and the other argued strongly for a separate Water Board. Presumably also, the City Council, as the chief contributing body, will maintain the balance of voting power, on the casting vote-.of tho chairman, and the lands concerned will be vested in the council.
