DUTY ON MAIZE
SUGGESTED COMPROMISE
A conference was held'this morning between, the representatives of tho maize growers and members of Parliament who havo interested thomselves on their behalf. Speaking to a "Post" representative afterwards, Mr. E. Lloyd Lees, representing the Bay of Plenty growers, said that a compromise had beon suggested whereby whole-maize would be made free, and the duty on ground-maize would be reduced from 2s to la. It was possible that this would be agreed to. In the meantime the representatives of the growers were communicating with their principals, and finality would be arrived at on Monday. •
