TASMAN FLIGHT

ABANDONED OWING TO OPPOSITION

(By Tefograph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Owing to opposition from tho Commonwealth Aviation Department, Lieutenant Frowcn 's plan to fly across tho Tastnan from ICempsoy, New South Wales, to Auckland has been definitely suspended, and arrangements may yet be made for a reversal of tho route and a start from Auckland. A cablogram. recoivod at Auckland stated that Lieutenant Frowen had been faced with an official request to, comply *ith the regulations by equipping his inachino with floats. The

Government has rofused to show its approval of an attompt to mako tho flight in a land niachino, and until tho quostion of fitting floats has been considered from tho financial and mechanical aspects, no attompt will bo made from Australia. Lieutenant Frowon is quito willing to attompt the flight in a land machine, and on this account tho possibility of taking off from New Zealand and landing at Norfolk and Lord Howo Islands is under consideration. Tho Bristol machino used by Lieutenant Frowen is essentially designed for land flights, and tho addition of Uoats may not bo practicable. Tho Bristol is fitted with a 300 horso-power engine, and with this a non-stop flight from Australia to New Zealand would bo impossible, on account of the petrol consumption.
