OPENING OF INQUEST

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An inquest was opened at Kirwee yesterday concerning the death of Henry George Weir, who was killed outright in the level crossing smash on Thursday. •,

Mr. Smith, who employed both Weir and Stewart, said that the men left in the car ownod a~d driven by, Stewart. They were to go to Kirwe'e to load coal and afterwards go to work at Courtcnay.

Arthur Lionel Stewart, the driver of the car, is reported by tho hospital authorities to be improving yesterday. He is not now on tho seriously ill list, though ho is badly injured.
