(United Press Association.—Copyright.)
_ ■ ■' BRISBANE, 22nd August. The New Zealand hockey team defeated a strong Victorian combination during the hockey carnival at the exhibition this morning by 8 goals to nil. The New Zealanders played a hard game throughout. Penalties were awarded against them, from 'which, however, their opponents failed to score. In the second spell, as on Saturday, the visitors settled down to steady combination, and towards the end of the game the Victorians were visibly tired, although they tried valiantly to stop the rout. Bell was a prolific scorer for New Zealand. Bough play was frequent, but for all that it must be acknowledged that the visitors played a splendid attacking game, Cole feeding his forwards admirably. From the outset the New Zealanders pressed strongly, play immediately going to the Victorians' end. At halftime the New Zealanders were leading by 2 goals to nil. Of the total eight goals Bell Bcored four, and Seccombe, who also played a fine game, scored two, Spiers one, and Watts one. Although he had a comparatively easy time, Fletcher in goal showed he is an excellent custodian.
