FATAL INJURIES
ACCIDENT TO CAR PASSENGER

CHBISTCHIJRCH, This Bay. John Holmes Hartley, a carpenter, employed at Kangiora, who was admitted to the Brocklehurst Hospital, Bangiora, at 11 o'clock last night suffering from a serious injury to his head, died at 2.30 yesterday. Hartley, it is reported, was occupying the back seat of a motor-car returning from Ashley to Eangiora, .and driven, by Mr. C. Devlin. There was a thick fog at the time, and ,when nearing Ivory's Nurseries, Hartley put his head out to ascertain the locality. The car was travelling at the extreme right of the road and his head struck an electric light pole, rendering him unconsciouß. Tho car proceeded a short distance before Mrs. Hartley, who occupied the front seat, noticed there was something wrong with her husband, and that it was evident he was seriously injured
