DE LUXE THEATRE.

Murder and mystery and romance all ro to make "Held by the law," showing at the De Luxe ThSatre. The story tells how Boris Morton, in order to save himself from exposure after the theft of a valuable necklace, shoots I one of the guests at an engagement party. Suspicion falls upon an innocent man, and ho comes very near to being executed before the real murderer is discovered. A pretty love story relieves the grimmer side of the film. That fine actor, Johnny Walker, does most convincing work. Marguerite De la Motto is heroine. Robert Ober, Ralph Lewis, E. J. •Ratellffo, Fred Kelsey, and Maude Wayne have important parts to play. Amongst the selections played by Mr. Emanuel Aarons on the Wurlltzer organ, "The Far-Away Bells" aroused great enthusiasm. The orchestra played a selection from "Elgolotto." "MONS." On yesterday morning, the 22nd August, 1927, the thirteenth anniversary of the day upon which he fired the first British shbt in the Great War at Binche, near the village of Mons, Bombardier A. G. Jenkins arrived in Wellington to appear in conjunction with "Mons," at the De Luxe Theatre, commencing at the matinee- on Friday afternoon nest at 2.30. Special matinees will be held at the same hour dally throughout the season. Special music by the orchestra Do Luxe and tho Wurlltzer organ compiled by Mr. Emanuel Aarons will enhance the attractiveness of the screening. "Mons" Is admittedly the finest picture yet made in England. For Great Britain the war on land began at Mons, and at Mons, by a

most remarkable coincidence, it ended, fpr our British Army at least, more than four years later. But whereas in August, 1014, almost the whole of the British Expeditionary Force that was ready was strung out at Mons in November, *1918, British armie3 many times its size were fighting on every front. Vaster in size they were, but not more heroic in quality than the corps which fought at Mons, the van of the old British Regular Array, which

was worn to a shudow la three months o£ perpetual matches and battles, and which handed over Us victorious banners, torn but flyins, to those who came to its succour after the crowning mercy of the first Battle of Ypres. Box plans are available at The Bristol, at Aitken's, and at the theatre.
