CO-OPERATION OR CONTROL?
Commenting.on the decision in New Zealand to reintroduce the free marketing of dairy produce, the Manchester "Guardian Commercial" said it would be welcomed. Tho New Zealand Dairy Produce Board had lost a good deal of gpodwill in London, and the trade hoped to recover some of it under freer conditions. Referring to tho Australian Commonwealth Control Boards, of which there are three—covering dairy produce, dried fruits, and canned fruits—the opinion was expressed that they could make some alterations on the basis of past experience. These boards could do a great deal, if they exercise any real control over the producer, to level up the standard of production; but they must always be careful not to step too hard on the consumers' toes. The boards as a whole might, perhaps, drop the word "control" from their vocabulary nnd use "cooperation" instead —as the Danes do.
