BERLIN, 11th August The exile, ex-King George of Greece^ was looking.out of a carriage windpw when Kikinda, a Eumanian young man, attempted to assassinate him; Kikinda fired several shots without"injuring the ex-King. The man was arrested.
George 11., ex-King of the Hellenes* J3 the eldest son of ex-King Constan* tine, and was born on 20th July, 1890, at Tatoi, the Boyal villa hear Athens. On account of his supposed Gennanophile tendencies during the Great War he was excluded from the' succession by the Allies ia favour of hia younger brother, Alexander, upon the deposition of his father by the ulimatum in 1917* After his father '3 restoration to the throne in 1920----he married, on 27th: ; Febrnaiv.

Upon, the second deposition of his father by the revolution of General Plasteras, his younger brother Alexander I . havine Sdiea in 1920, he succeeded to the throne. After the unsuccessful counter, revolution of 1923 his position became more difficult, although there was no proof that he had been a party to the rising. Eepublican feeling grew under the leadership of M. Papanastasiou ana others, and, despite M. "Venizelos's advice to await the decision of the National Assembly, a number of naval and; military officers demanded the deposition of the Glucksbnrg dynasty and on 19th December, 1923, King George and the Queen left Greece. On 25th March, 1924, the Assembly formally deposed the Gluci-sburg dynasty, and forbade members of the family to evea reside in Greece, since when the King and Queen have lived in England, with* occasional visits to the South of France and other places.
