(From "The Post's" Representative.) ■ , LONDON, 29 th June. At the graduation ceremony at St. Andrew's University on 20th June the honorary degree of LL.D. was conferred upon Professor J. B. Brown, Professor ? ™a\ cs> Vlet°"a University College, Wellington (iv absentia). ' The Board of the Faculty of Medicine ?* '°xf°*d have elected Jean Orr Ewing, 8.M., M.A. _ (Lady Margaret Hall), to the Shorstem research fellowship in medical science for two years from Ist October.
Mr. John Bentoul, chairman of the Honey Board and managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Honey Producers' Association, Auckland, arrived in London via Cape Horn and Montevideo by the Port Caroline. The main purpose of Mr Eentoul's' visit is to inquire into the marketing of honey. He expects to stay until about the middle of August and, though making London his headquarters, he intends to visit the principal provincial centres as far north as Aberdeen. In a few days Mr. Eentoul will leave for Germany in connection with- the sale of New Zealand honey in that country.
Professor James Hight (Christchureh) has almost completed his term at Leeds University. At present he is representing New Zealand at the Imperial Education Conference in London, and thus ho has the unusual opportunity of meeting educationists from every part of the Empire. The sessions will last in. all for three weeks, after which the majority of the delates will tour for a fortnight in various parts of England, and they will visit Ulster. Dr. Hight then intends to return to London, where he will remain for some time. His duties have not so far enabled him to see much of the Metropolis. Later on he intends to tour ia England and Scotland, and a short trip to the Continent is contemplated. He will spend some time in America on the way home. ■
At the Encaenia held in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, yesterday, under the presidency of the vice-chancellor (Dr. r. W. Pembcr), a number of eminont men had conferred upon them the degree of D.C.L., including Marshal Foch, Lord Allonby, Lord Home, Sir Kobert Borden, Dr. Montague Ehodes James (Provost of Eton), and Sir Robert Hadfield. During the proceedings the prize compositions were recited by their composers. The winner of the Gaisford prize for Greek verso u>i, it will be remembered, Mr. Eonald Syme (a distinguished New Zealand scholar and honorary scholar of Oriel College). The title of his prize composition was "Sigurd the Volsung." . Miss Gertrude Trevelyan (Lady Margaret Hall), the first woman to win the Newdicate prize for English verse, recited her composition entitled "Julia, Daughter of Claudius."
