PIRAMAR PROGRESS

ASSOCIATION'S DESIRES

The annual meeting of the Watts Peninsula Municipal Electors' Association was held at the Miramar School last evening, Mr.'E. 0. Thornton presiding. The report stated that during the year the maximum amount of City Council money, which the rapid growth of Miramar demanded, had been spent, but the progress made in meeting requirements was still far from satisfactory. The main streets of the district had received attention, but there were many still in very bad condition. Most satisfactory results had followed requests for additional lights. The water and drainage works for Seatoun Heights, for the lower end of Devonshire road, and fop Ina street were reported to be progressing favourably. The financial position of the association was sound, there being a credit balance of. £9 la sd. It was pointed out, however, that this sum was too small to b« of any real value, and that members should "try to increase the funds by canvassing for new members.

i During the year two sections of open drains had been culverted, and a third was being completed. The Mayor, Mr. G. Troup, had Htated that the work should be completed by doing a fixed portion each year, but these drains had now become a menace to public health because sewerage was sometimes turned into them, as the ejectors were insufficient.

During the year the City Council had passed a resolution in favour of allowing the Public Works proclamation over the polo ground to lapse. It was thought, however, thafc. other agencies were at work to prevent this ground being used as a reswve, and it. was decided that the committee should take up the matter. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
