THE CAPITAL CITY

A USEFUL HANDBOOK

Wellington port and city receive full publicity at the hands of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Its Year Book for 1927 is full of information relative to the traffic and business of the capital of the Dominion. In addition to reports of the chamber and of its annual meeting there are a' series of informative appendices. The first of these describes Wellington itself as "The beat base for tours," and gives reasons why, dealing with its geographical position in relation to sea routes from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, India, and the Far East. The scenic attractions of the North and South Islands are briefly described and finely illustrated, and maps and plans are generously interlarded in the text. The prospective visitor is assured that Wellington has the most equable climate in New Zealand, and its claims to "the largest" in the Dominion include meat freezing works, motor assembling shops, Government printing establishment (South of the Line), woollen mills, and "the largest wooden building in tho world." ' In short, tho handbook will not only be found of great use to the business man in New Zealand and overseas, but of particular value to enthusiasts who practiso the "ask-me-another" cult, for so much of the information is conveyed m one or two line paragraphs easy to commit to memory. A full list of members of the chamber and their interests will be found useful, and there is a classified business directory. Cash discount, stock and sharo brokerage, real estate agents' fees, and other information for ready reference will be found m the handbook. The work is printed by Blundell Brothers. '
