Ihe two clubs recently inaugurated bjl the local executive of the Y.iVi.e.A. aid making marked progress, and promise t3 become valuable adjuncts to the move* ment. The "Optimists" hold weekly lun. clieons, at which members become better 1 acquainted. An address, always of an in* structive nature, is given at each by one: of Nelson's citizens interested in the wel« fare of .V.M.C.A. undertakings. The "Saturday Night" Club seeks, to interest the youthful member, who can listen to leci lures, play games, and indulge in a varii ety of recreational exercises of a gymnastic; nature.

Inter-club golf .matches .were played ati Motueka last week between players in that town and representatives of Nelson. The latter won by 7 games to 5. Local footballers have a busy time before them. The Rugby players will meefc the Maori team on the 30th inst., and Buller (for the Seddon Shield) on tho 13th August. A match, Past v. Present Students' of -Nelson College, postponed owing to unfavourable weather conditions, will take place at ail early date. A trial match to enable the selectors to make their final choice of a team to represent Nelson "Soc« cor" players against Buller for the Emma Shield will be played next Saturday. 3?he big game will take place at Westport on' 6th. August. On the first Monday in August a six-a-side tournament will be held by the "Soccer" clubs. .;-> 5 The Minister of Lands, the Hon. A.
