LATE SPORTING

AUSTRALIA'S INVADERS ' LIMERICK AND COMMENDATION LEAVE. Limerick and company arrived from the South this morning by the ferry steamer, and were transhipped on to the Ulimaroa without untoward incident. Limerick looks particularly well, and is a much improved gelding. Commendation, who looks to have done plenty of work, arrived from Hawkes Bay last night, and followed his rival on to the Sydney boat wHhout any ado. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gaisford were present to uee him shipped. It is to be regretted that a New Zealand jockey has not been engaged for him, but it is possible some satisfactory arrangement can be made in Australia with one of the New Zealandera over there. At present this phase is causing Mr. Gaisford no little anxious thought. George Jones will engage a. jockey if possible on his arrival in Sydney to ride Commendation throughout his Australian engagements. The horse himself has done particularly well throughout the winter, and, if anything his appearance as a four-year-old should be better than previous in his career. According to his owner, he has done plenty of hill work, and has only been back to the track ■ a few Weeks. Eecently, with a big weight up at Napier Park, he strode along-o-er a mile and a half, sprinting the last four furlongs in 49Jsec. His condition and general appearance should, please tho Australian critics. A. D. Webster's sextette went,.on. board the Ulimaroa with little trouble. First Acre looks particularly well, and. the Acre-Lady Moutoa two-year-old Greenfield, is a big chap, already being taller than First Acre. The Kilbroney—Moutoa Tvanova four-year-old pony; gelding is a neat fellow. H. Telford shipped the Epitaph filly; Endorse, who went into the loading box without any trouble, and behaved herself like an old hand.
