RHODES SCHOLARS
DEPARTURE FOR OXFORD
Tho two New Zealand Rhodes scholars for 1927, Messrs. \V. G. Kalaugher, M.A., B.Sc, of Wellington, and A. "L. Haslam, LL.M., of Christchurch,. are leaving Wellington early next month for Oxford University. They will sail on sth Augu 3 t by the Marama for Sydney, where they will join the Esperance Bay for Eygland. Both students are required to be in attendance at Oxford by October. Mr. Kalaugher is a son of Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, of Wellington, and besides his scholastic attainments he has a good record as an athlete. He intends devoting his time at Oxford to the study of mathematics and actuarial seieuee.
A son of Mr. C. N. Haslam, inspector of schools, Christchurch, Alec Leslie Haslam received his early education in Wellington. He has taken an active part in rowing, track running, harriers, golf, and tennis, and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor at Christchurch in 1925.
The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has arranged a function in honour of Mr. Kalaugher, to be held on Wednesda ynext in Gamble and Creed's rooms, at 10.30 a.m., to which all athletc3 are invited to attend.
C. W. Price, 173, Cuba street, will sell furniture, piano, and contents of 4roomed bungalow in the mart, to-morrow, commencing at 10.30 a.m.
