MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—As the City Council seems to ba looking round for suitable works on which to make use of the unemployed, especially" m connection, with the city res«*vcs,: ■might I be permitted to suggest that something might be done for the municipal golf links. .The municipal golf links is really the Cinderella amongst the Wellington reserves, because these links have always paid handsomely, and have had very little done for them in the way of improvements since they were first laid out many years ago.. I would suggest that with a comparatively small expenditure the nine 'popular" holes on this, side of the road could be very greatly improved. | lhe boundary fences could be wirenetted, and the "ditches" and "creeks" across the fairways could _be culverted and filled in; and the bogs could also be'drained Of course, to expert golfers these are not of very great importance, being merely hazards> but .to the ;ordinary or "garden" type rf golfer they are a very serious matter. Good golfballs cost 3s 3d each, and it .ur quite easy for a novice to lose two ?f-^ ce'n -the wand °f *ne nine holes. It should be borne'in mind that the great bulk of the players who use the municipal Jinks cannot afford to throw money away , in this manner, and it is about time that the City Council gave a sympathetic ear to , the just claims of this Cinderella amongst our reserves.—l am, etc., :
