SUBSIDY PAYMENTS

The Massey Agricultural College Bill amends the Act passed last year by eliminating the words "New Zoaland" from tho title.

Attendance at the college is to be equivalent to attendance either at Victoria or Auckland University Colleges, and the council of 'ho new college may grant diplomas in agricultural science without reference to the university, or tho Victoria or Auckland Colleges. Monoys may bo raised under tho Educational Purposes Loans Act for tho equipment of the college. The total amount of subsidy payable in rospoct of any voluntary contribution received by the College Council shall not exceed £25,000. The staff of the college are to beComo contributors to the Teachers' Superannuation Fund.

The Canterbury College and Canterbury Agricultural College Amendment, introduced with tho above measure, provides that attendance at Canterbury Agricultural College shall be equivalent to ntteudanco at Canterbury University Collego, and increases membership of tho board of governors from seven ■to ten. Tho collego may also grant diplomas in agricultural science. Subsidies on voluntary contributions shall not exceed £25,000, and tho annual subsidies arc limited to £10,000. Authority is given for a grant of £10,000 from the Education Loans Account towards improving thd 1 building and equipment of tho cplloge. • The Minister of Finance is' to provide £3700 annually for the carrying out of research work at the college.
