NELSON, 26th July: Iv the .Nelson Golf Club's bogey match on Saturday, Mitchel was 1 down, Cock 1 down, N. Vercoe 2 down, Coutts 2 down, Menlove 2 down, Gibbs 4 clown, E. Vercoe 4 down, Wiggins 4 down, and Huggins 6 down. It is intended to hold a llight tournament at the end of this week, should there be sufficient entries, and on Monday next four-ball bogey matches will be played. Huggins and Elliott were the victors in the four-ball final, beating Palmer and Spear, 2 up. Mr. Bruce, Agricultural Inspector reported to the Education Board that during the month he visited 29 schools. Troeplantiug was being carried on at most of these, and Beveral school committees had applied for shrubs and trees. The Education Board decided to call for tenders for a new school at Pakawau and a new building at Glen Roy. Out-offices at Kotinga are to be arranged for and when the grant is available tenders are to bo invited for an addition to the school at Wai-uta. The site for-the new school was approved.
The board carried a resolution favourin" discretionary power being granted to boards iv the matter o£ married women teachers.
Antonio Ercolano and Percy Thompson were each fined £1 and 10s costs-'for fighting in the street.
Mr. C. P. Keilly, of Takaka, met with a serious accident last Wednesday while cutting hay, the knife slipping and cuttiur his knee-cap. Twelve stitches had to be used in treating the wound. The death has occurred of Miss SI E Ka.v, an old resident of AVai-iti. The Nelson City Council has purchased from the Education Board the land and old school formerly known as the Haven road School, which was, closed when the new Auckland Point School was opened
