THE WATER SUPPLY
MR. STRAND'S OFFER
DISPOSAL OF AKATARAWi
LAND
The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) today instructed the Town Clerk (Mr. E. P. Norman, to publish the following letter, written to the City Solicitor (Mr. J. O'Shea) on 21st March:—
"As I am the owner of some small portion of the land which it is suggested should be taken for forest and water conservation purposes for Wellington and the adjacent districts, I make the following offer:-— , ""Whatever land of mine.that it is advisable or necessary to take shall be taken and paid for at whatever price the officers of the Valuation or Public Works Department may put upon it, and for this purpose I will not seek to have a representative. "My reason for this offer is that such a desirable and necessary scheme should in nowise be jeopardised because I happen to have had for many years a small interest in that district. I do not desire this offer to be made public, but to be acted upon, if and when, desired by you."
