Mr. C. G. M'Ladoe (Auckland) returned this morning by the tOimaroa after a business trip to Sydney.

Mr. A. Russell, Australasian manager for tho Union Assurance Society, arrived by the TJlimaroa to-day.

Mr. O. E. Bondall, Consular ' Agent for France, who has been paying a holiday visit to Now South Wales, returned by the Ulimaroa this morning.

Arrivals by the Ulimaroa this morning woro Messrs. R.. J. Gravestock, E, S. Luttrell, O. N. Gillcspie, and T. A, Trcmewan.

Tho Rev. James Barr, 8.D., M.P., arrived from Australia to-day by tho Ulimnroa, and is being accorded a civic rocoptiou at 4.30 o'clock this afternoon.

Mr. R. M'Calluni returned this morning from Auckland MJ:s. M'Callum, who recently undorwent two seriona operations, is now out "of danger.

. Mr. W. Freeman," of the editorial staff of the "Sydney Morning Horald," and Mr. L. R. Freeman, Sydney reprosentativo of tho "Mclbourno Argus," arrived this morning by the Ulimnroa. Both are on holiday visits to Wellington, wliore they wero formerly on the staff of tho "Evening Post."

Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Sclanders were among the arrivals by the TJliinaroa this morning. Mr. Selanders is superintendent of the Eastern Extension Teicgraph Company, at Fuchow, and intends to spend his fivo months' leave in Now Zealand.

Tho death is'■ reported from England of Mr. J. H. Maynard, formerly a wellknown builder of . Christchurch, in his seventy-first year. Tho late Mr. Maynarcl, who was for- some time of the New Zealand Federation, left early this year on a trip to the Old Country. He was a well-known bowling enthusiast.

Professor Andrew 1 Lawson, Professor of Mineralogy and Geology at Berkeley College, University of California, arrived this morning by tlie Ulimaroa from Sydney. ,He will spend a week in New Zealand before returning to Australia and America. This afternoon ho delivered an address on "The American Cordillera," at Victoria University College.

-Mr. William A. Mills died at Ms home in Grey Lynn yesterday after a short illness (telegraphs "The Post's" Auckland correspondent). The deceased, who was ' sub-accountant of the Auckland branch of the Bank of Australasia, was the only son of Mr. Tom Xj. Mills, editor of the "Feilding Star.?' He was. a. sergeant in. tho Sixth Haurakis, and -was twice on Gallipoli, being wounded at the original landing and more seriously after the Suvla Bay landing. He often suffered from his war injuries and became blind on one occasion. Ho was stationed at Feeding, Rotorua, WaipukuTau, \^aipawa, and Morrinsville. Mr. Mills,- who was only 34, is survived by a wife ana four children. Tho funeral takes place this afternoon. .
