KELSON, 25th July. A very enjoyable concert was given" by the pupils o£ the Nelson Academy of Music on Saturday. The majority of the items displayed undoubted musical ability, and created a very favourable impression. An interesting debate was held on Saturday between iour pupils of the Nelson College and a like number of "old boys " teen rivalry being displayed. The Dominion secretary of the Sudan united Mission (Mr. J. Priestley) is at present in the Motueka district. He has given lantern lectures already iv Motueka, Kiwaka, and Moutere to greatly interested audiences. The Bishop o£ Nelson conducted a wemornl service to the late Dr. Washburn, at Richmond, on Sunday. There was a large congregation. In the Magistrate's Court this morning George Agar, of Christchurch, was fined £3, with 10s costs, for motor-car speeding, and £1, with 10s costa, for not having an efficient silencer on his car. J C Coote was fined £1, with 10s costs, " for driving a car without a license. Richard Mulvauey was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for deserting from the ss Waipori. Mr. J. H. Harkness has been reappointed as the Nelson Education Board's representative on the Westport Technical School Board of Managers. Miss Flora Back, an inventor of many surgical appliances; is at present visiting Ivelson. . At Motueka on Saturday the Rugby Huia Cup trophy was won by the Huia Club.
