FOE PALMERSTON NORTH

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day. At a special meeting of the Borough Council held last evening, it was decided to proceed at once with the laying out of seven acres of reserve, adjacent to the esplanade, as a' botanical garden, in order to give some measure of relief to unemployment in the town.

The work, which will consist mainly of laying out paths, lawns, and gardens, will occupy the attention of 12 to 18 men for three months at a cost of £600.

The Mayor's relief fund, which is being contributed to generously by tho public, is to be devoted to this work.

Other schemes to employ the workless were considered, but were turned down as too much money would have to bo spent on material.
