RANFURLY SHIELD
STILL IN NAPIER
LEGAL ADVICE OBTAINED
Although the New Zealand Rugby Union has decided that the Ranfurly Shield is to be returned to Wairarapa, it is reported from Napier that the fixture, Hawkes Bay v. Taranaki, which is to be decided to-morrow, is being regarded conditionally as a Shield match. It is stated by th« chairman of the Hawkes Bay Rugby Union (Mr. J. W. Norrie) that his body proposes to take the matter of the Shield to a higher tribunal than the New Zealand Bugby Union, a hint being given that the first movo would probably be to go to tho Appeal Council of the N.Z.K.U. A definite statement confirming tho intention of going to the Supreme Court baa not yet been made, though it is understood that officials of the Hawkes Bay Eugby Union have had a conference with legal advisers. Meanwhile the trophy ig being kept by Hawkes Bay.
