A WESTERLY DISTURBANCE

A westerly disturbance now hold* swa* over the Dominion, and the barometer has; fallen further in the South, though little change has taken place in the North; Freshening north-west winds have prevailed. A heavy thunderstorm was reported in the Southern Alps last night, and 4.03 in of rain fell during the sight at Arthur's Pass. Rain was reported on all the western coast this morning, southward. of New Plymouth. At Wellington 10 points were registered, while Westport and Greymouth reported 84- points and 88 points respectively, with the rivers, showing a fresh. Fain also fell at Oamaru and Timaru during the night owing to the thunderstorm, but the weather was fine along all the eastern coast this morning. Westerly winds are likely to preyail and back to southerlies shortly. The force will be moderate to strong northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and strong to gale at times elsewhere. The barometer is unsteady in the North, and will-show a falling tendency, but it is due' to rise in the South soon. Changeable and showery conditions are forecasted for the western coast of the North Island, and unsettled and cloudy weather, with rain probable, rivers high, and snow on the higher levels, for the west coast of the South.
