AUSTRALIAN TRADE
HEAVY IMPORTS LAST YEAR
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "Th« Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day Mr. R. W. Dalton, British Trade Commissioner in Australia, is a passenger by the Aorangi, en routo to England on leave Mr. Dalton was Trade Commissioner in Aew Zealand .six years ago. Leaving here, lie went to Canada, and has been in Australia since 1924.
Imports to Australia this year were on a very large scale, but the proportion oi goods from Great Britain was slightly less than last year, Mr. Dalton said. The heavy import trade, he considered, was due to heavy borrowing during the past tew years. He was glad to say English motor-cars were being given a very good reception iii Australia, and about 20,000 iinghsh cars o£ all makes would be imported this year. There was a strong demand for light cars, and heavier cars, ranging in price up to about £600, were also meeting with a ready Bale. "The British Motor Delegation has done invaluable work in bringing British cars prominently before the public, and the results of its visit should be far-reachinir," »oid Mr. Dalton. "The members are experts, and have had every opportunity of studying road conditions. They will be able to form accurate ideas of the type of cars needed for the colonial market. It is not unlikely that the success o£ the motor delegation will lead to similar trade delegations touring the Dominions. Great Britain realises she hag a great market for her goods in the colonies, and is making efforts to foster trade in this direction."
