Tlir president (Mr. F. W. Vossnlcr) presided over the annual meeting of the Tar.-ima Tramping Club last evening.

In moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet for the past season details of which have been published' the president said that it was very pleasing indeed to be able to record that the club was not going backward. The enthusiasm of members was being steadily maintained, and tho financial position of the club was sound. On the whole ho thought the club ctfuld regard itself as being in a very satisfactory position. He hoped he was not deceiving himself in' the belief that the influence of tho Tararua Tramping Club was making itself felt throughout New Zealand. The club had had some influence in the spreading of- tramping ideals to other parts, and clubs had been formed and modelled on tho lines of the Tararua Club. Ho was confident the influence of the club was great, but that influence carried with it a great obligation. It was to be regretted that the Red Cross lectures had been allowed to lapse, but he was pleased to bo able to say that they would be commenced again shortly. Mr. Vo3seler referred to the death of several trampers, and to the trying experiences of Bicdrich and Scanlon, on ,he lararnas. Much credit was due to those who went out in search of the two youths. Mention was also made ot the accident which befel Mr R D Hill, a member of one of the'search parties and of Dr. Tweed, of Masterton who went to his assistance at great personal inconvenience. A handsome shield, which has yot to be completed, was presented to Mr L B. Cross, winner of the first club skiing championship. In making the presentation Mr. Vosseler said that the shield was made of a piece of mountain beech from the remains of the hut on the Tararuas.
