PARIS, 18th June. A debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the subject of an order for the arrest of the Communist deputy Doriot progressed in an atmosphere of tension owing tv a rumour that Doriot would mako a dramatic entry, but there was no appearance. Doriot was last" heard of m Moscow. He was sentenced in Ins. absence last year.' to eighteen .months'/imprisonment on a charge of n:.ti-militarist propaganda in connection with the war in Morocco. He still has the right of appeal to a Court. Ihore is another prosecution pending for alleged treasonable conduct and speeches while on a visit to China. The.debate, followed the decision of M. Berthou. that Doriot should bo arrested immediately ho returned to .1 ranee, but thiß was nullified by the announcement: that Doriot has exercisod his Tight of appeal. Further action was therefore suspended.
