NEWTOWN V. NORTH
Assisted by two Auckland acquisitions, Jdyiand and Halliday, Newtown, the heavier team, chose to play against the wind. .North attacked, keeping their opponents close to their line; A brief clearance occurred, but a brilliant run by Scorringe brought them back to defend. North were playing a hard game, and constantly got the ball from the scrum, but M'Eae, the Newtown full-back, was a capable defence. Gradually play came to the centre, where Desmond (Newtown) took the ball on his own, and, outpacing the North players, Scored a good try. Green failed with the kick. Newtown 3, North nil. After the spell Newtown Boon increased their lead, 6. Hill-scoring under the posts and Desmond adding the goal points. Newtown 8, North nil. Time' Was called early, the conditions having obliged several North players to leave the field, and tin game ended without any change in the score. .
