WORKING MEN'S CLUB

The 1927-8 chess season of the. Wellington Working Men's Club and Literary Institute was opened last week with a sides match, teams being chosen by the captain and., vice-captain. Barnes, who has been the club's champion for more than three decades, was too unwell to take part. The club has received very good entries for this year's tourneys, there being 18 competitors in the annual handicap chess tourney, twelve in the Minor Chess Tourney (from which the senior players are barred), and twenty in the annual sealed handicap draughts tourney.
