MONTREAL, 17th June,

The Provincial Government, having conclusively traced a recent typhoid epidemic to certain dairy' companies, has ordered them to be closed. The authorities took complete control, thereby stopping the spread of the disease, but not before it had taken a drastic toll. During March, April, and May, 4259 residents of Montreal were stricken with the disease, of which onetenth succumbed. Many thousands of dollars were also lost as a result of the epidemic affecting the tourist traffic.

Tho typhoid epidemic started during the first week of March, and claimed 1812 victims during the month. Tho number decreased to 791 in April, with 233 deaths for the two months. There was a fresh outbreak towards the end of April, which resulted in 1636 new cases in May, with 107 deaths. The figures during the past week have averaged only ten cases daily.
