LOCAL RELIEF JOBS
.The details of the extended scheme for the absorption of "2000 more unemployed on public .works are being worked out, and it is expected that a statement will be made on the subject early next week. _In the meantime, as the result of registrations between departmental and local civic offices, small parties of men. are being put on to roading and other works day by day, and the measure'of relief is steadily inccrasing. Fifty inea have already been drafted to Tawa.Flat to carry out certain road, work; twenty left on Thursday and twenty yesterday,' and a third party of ten will join up on. Monday. Thirty-six men will be absorbed next week on public works jobs, and 25 additional B-grade workers are to be placed by the City.Council, probably"on Wednesday, in levelling saodhills. It is understood that 30 men are also to be put; on to the improvement* of Point Halswell. road. , ■ By next week, therefore, about 150 local men will be placed in work through the combined efforts of the Government and the City Council.
