ESSENTIAL ORGANISATION

' Various references have been made, during the R.S.A. Conference, to tho amount of work yet to be done before the personal troubles resulting from the War are adjusted. Instead of disappearing, the necessity for relief, consequent on war disabilities, continues, and General Russell expressed the opinion that the peak of War pensions had not yet been reached. In these circumstances it is gratifying to note that the R.S.A. continues as a sound organisation. It is very much more than a social organisation for ex-soldiers, though the social side alone would justify its continuance. It is an organisation particularly well qualified to represent the ex-soldier in his dealings with the public and the public authority. It can give strong support to the deserving case, and it can guard the' interests of the whole body by weeding out tho undeserving. Wherever there is a strong claim upon public interest and

sympathy thero will bo impostors seeking to profit from that sympathy. Oftou it is extremsly difficult for tho public authority to recognise such imposition, but such a body as tho R.S.A. can do so and deal with it effectively. It is in this standing between the genuine and the bogus that tho R.S.A. renders a great public service. Returned men generally should recognise this (as many of them do) and help to keep alive and healthy tho organisation

which, more than any other, can protect their own claims and secure them against attacks from any quarter.
