GOING TO ENGLAND

THREE LEAGUE PLAYERS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, 15th June.

Definite instructions to proceed to England to fulfil the terms of their contract with Wigan Club were received by the two Auckland 1 League football players L. Brown and B. Davidson to-day. Brown received a cablegram which read as follows:- —"Have . booked passages Davidson and self by Corinthic, leaving Wellington 29th June. Inform Mason. —Taylor, Wigan." -■■'■•• This is the first intimation in New Zealand that Mason had been approached, but it was known Wigan Club was keen to secure his services while in England. Mason is at present playing for Hornby Club, in Christchurch. He is 22 years of age, and weighs well over 15 stone. While in England- Mason was considered one of the finest forwards among the New Zealand pack. ■ : The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby League to-night, when members agreed that although" I they were opposed to the granting of | transfers as a matter of principle, yet seeing the English League had removed the residential qualification, it was' only fitting that the services the players had rendered to the League code in Auckland should be recognised. It was decided to await the protest of the New Zealand League, and. in the meantime to arrange for a presentation to Brown and Davidson.. - '■■■- : '
