HOSPITAL MATRONS
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON
TLe Doiuinion conference of hospital matrons was continued yesterday at tue Nurses' Home, Wellington Hospital, Miss Stott presiding.
_ It was c -icideo to ses>d a ii«:ommemiation to the Begistrar of the University, asking whether the council would reconsider its decision with regard to the establishment of a diploma of nursing, and a post-graduato course for nurses, which it was felt was urgently needed. If was agreed to ask hospital boards to facilitate the interchange of graduate nurses where approved by the matrons and medical superintendents. A -recommendation was made that after probationers signed on, a review of their case should be made after twelve months, and again after two years. The following resolution was adopted:— " That matrons have authority from their respective boards to give preference tp candidates for nurses' school probationership to those with some higher education."
Discussion took place on the management of stores, linen, and laundry issue, and also on the question of instruction in invalid cookery, which it.was felt must be left to the decision of the matrons in each case.
There was also discussion on the question ef uniform salary for nurses in training air over the Dominion, but no decision was made.
Miss Stott explained the Wellington Hospital library system. Each nurse subscribes a very small sum, and the board subsidises this, the money being spent on nursing books, which the nurses can borrow.
This afternoon a lecture was given by Miss Moore, one of the tutor sisters who were sent to England for post-graduate study. The subject was "The Evolution of Nursing." . The lecture was illustrated with lantern slides.
