THIS YEAR'S BUTTER
A BIG IMPROVEMENT

PALMERSTON N., This Day • C°ngrat^atiois on the improvement in the quality of the butter and cheese produced during the past season were extended^ the members of the Now Zealand Dairy Factory Managers' Association at the annual meeting of that body last evening by Mr. W. SmjrleAJ D 1 ot" «'c Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture). t In my opinion there has been more improvement in the quality of your butter and cheese this year than during the; twenty-six years I have been in New Zealand," he said. "I want to say a word to you, not too seriously nor too lightly. He referred to the proposal to deal with dairy research at the proposed Agricultural College. "We hope that it will not bo long before some assistance will be available as regards the scientific side of tho dairying industry. When we get tho influence of science in the vicinity of Palmerston North in the near future all your troubles will vanish, as the frosts disappear these mornings beforo tho sun. That may seem optimistic: personally, I think it is. (Laughter.) We hope and believe that we will got a good deal of assistance from science in connection wtih bacteriological work, linked up with our practical work, and I feel sure we will get your heartiest co-operation in the matter. (Hear, hear.)" .
