CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last evening, Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding. Prior to the business of the meeting the death of Mrs. W. J. Heenan was referred to by the chairman, and a vote of condolence to Mr. W. J. Hoenan and Mr. J. W. Heenan was passed, members standing in silence. . ■ .. ■ .

It was decided that the Wellington Provincial Cross-country Championship be held nt the Hutt Park Racecourse on 25th. June. . ■■■-.

A suggestion was made by Mr. S. Hall that, with a view.to finding possible representatives for the Olympic Games, the New Zealand Council bo asked to institute .1 marathon championship, and that in order to give a lead the Wellington Centre hold a marathon race prior to the selection of the team to represent New Zealand at the 1928 Olympic Games. The proposal was referred to the Harrier Sub-committee for consideration.

The Wairarapa Sub-centre madn application for- a loan of £200 to carry out improvements at the Masterton Park. The Borough Council, it Has stated, had no money this year to mnke the desired improvements. The -work the sub-centre required to be done was to put « concrete kerb round the oval, to raise the outer edge .of the trade, and to make the truck HO yards, which it was originally. The council was quite prepared to come to any reasonable agreement to recompense tho sub-centra for the outlay. The Bubcentre would get an adequate return for tho-money provided. The request was referred to the Administration Committee. :

The Hutt Valley Harrier Club was granted permission to hold a sports meeting at thn Petoue Recreation Ground nest Labour Day.

It was decided that 110 cyclists under seventeen years of age be permitted to cotEßete in a .toad .race over 50- miles. :
