NELSON, 14th June. An important' meeting o£ the Nelson Order o£ Foresters was held recently, when it was stated that the growth had been so rapid that it had been found necessary to form two new districts,' one taking in Pjcton and Marlborougli, and the other Nelson and Motueka. Representatives from Pieton, Blenheim, and Motueka were in attendance.
The second meeting at luncheon of the recently formed V.M.C.A. Optimists' Club was addressed by Professor -Easterfield. The club is. now on a definite footing. In Soccer football the Athletic Club, with & wins and 1 loss, is leading. In the Eugby game the Nelson representatives were successful against Bays, 8-0. Nelson's bantam and school representatives played Motuekai winning by G points to nil.
There has been a heavy fall of snow on the hills. A particularly sharp frost was experienced .this morning. Mr. F. W. O. Smith, chairman of the Nelson Board of Education, has been nominated as a - member 'of the Victoria University Council, for Wellington, Nelson, Tarauaki, Hawkes Bay, and Wanganui Boards, as successor to Mr. M'Callum.
The apple packing and grading classes at Lower Moutere and Riwaka promise to be well patronised.
The Health Department lias declined a request from the Nelson Education Board for an extension of the dental service to the Takaka, Collingwood, aud Reeftou districts. The Education Department has advised that at present it cannot see its way to make a grant towards buying a property in 'the Wood district for a new school.
