PARAMOUNT THEATRE.
"Variety," now showing at the Paramount Theatre, is a remarkable picture. The star actor and actress in the new play are Emil Jannings and Lya do Putti. "Variety" opens with a prisoner telling his life story to the Warden. Twenty years before the man had been a member of the world's, greatest acrobatic act. His partner, Artiuelli, made love to his pretty wife. He challenges him to a duel, ends his career, and gives himself up to justice. The scenes behind the stage constitute a prominent part c" the story, and display the marvellously fine acting of the principals. The orchestra under the direction of Mr. R. Caul ton, contributes several special numbers. "THE EAT." AVhen "The Rat," the Temarkable British production to be screened at the Paramount next Friday, was running on Broadway as a successful ghow, it was freely predicted that only a short time would pass before it would appear as a moving picture. The prediction has come true, and "The Rat" is now on the screen, and even as the show was a sensational success, the film version promises to go it one better. The leading parts are played by Mac Harsh,- Ivor Novello, and Isabel Jeans. It has been admirably produced by Graham Cutts. Apart from the public interest in this drama and the popularity of Ivor Novello, it is a notable picture, because it introduces v new form of film technique. In Isabel Jeans film audiences will find a star of exceptional merit The box plans for "The Rat" season are now open at the theatre box office.
