MAKING PLASTER-BOARD. A Palmerston North Industry.
At an early hour the other morning a "Post" representative paid a visit to Mr. W. Mitchell's Premier Plasterboard Factory in Princess street, Palmerston North, and had an interesting hour in seeing this material in all stages of manufacture, and the most surprising aspect of it all was the great demand that has set-in for Mr. Mitchell's goods. Contractors are now largely using plaster board for interior work on dwellings and business premises, too. It is found to give better service than the old-time system of rough lining, and in addition to reduce insurance costs, because it is practically immune from lire, and gives a better surface for papering on than wood and scrim. Papering is done direct on to Mitchell's wall board, and you thus save scrimming v costs, besides getting a smoother, bettor, and more oven wall surface, which, if desired, could for halls, kitchens, and several rooms in a private dwelling be calcaminod from time to time without going to the expense of papering. Plas-ter-board walls preclude all possibility of draughty.rooms, which cannot be claimed for the old method of wood, scrim, and paper. Plaster ceiling work and cornices of many different designs can also be seen at Mr. Mitchell's works. The collection of beautiful cornices and centrepieces for large rooms, halls, etc., is well worth seeing. Plas-ter-board for walls and ceilings of private and public buildings is undoubtedly the coming thing. It is an industry that has "come to stay," and one that will find work for our own kith and kin in our own country, which is just ono aspect of an important New Zealand industry. Mr. Mitchell has many years of experience in this branch' of trade to his credit, and will be pleased to have a call from any interested persons or inquiries regarding prices and supply. Wall • board is everlasting. It nover can be attacked by the borer, and it won't burn, three most important points in its favour.
