The. above handsome structure was erected under the supervision of Natusch and Son, architects, of Wellington, by Messrs;-Irvine and Burr, building contractors; of Wellington, for tho trustees of the Cdbmbs Estate, Palmerston North. A portion of the premises have already been taken, but Messrs. Mowlem, the agents, of Bangitikei street, Palmerston North, will be pleased to' receive application for shops and offices to let on lease in the building. class passenger lift installed. Messrs. A. and- P. Steven, Ltd., the famous lift manufacturers, of Glasgow, aro past masters in the art of lift design and manufacture, and this latest example of their craft leaves nothing to be.desired, and is yet another example of tho high esteem in which their lifts are held in Now Zealand. Among tho many unique features peculiar to their lifts, the one outstanding importance appears to be in their system of double braking. This dynamic braking, as it is called, is in reality a double source of safety for tho main braking force, and is supplied electrically, and the usual mechanical'friction brake is only relied upon to bring the lift to rest r-fter the
« D. Watson, tho ,well-known plumber, of Taonui street, Palmerston North, was entrusted with the plumbing work, etc., on the above buildings, and in keeping with his usual' custom, did his job well.
Messrs. Alexander Clark, Ltd., carried out tho interior decorations of this fine building, and manufactured the leadlights for the front shops and supplied the whole of the plate-glass and sheet-glass required on tho building. A feature which adds- dignity and convenience to the building is the high-
main force of deceleration has been accomplished. This feature, together with tho patent non-interference device which entirely eliminates interference with the lauding gates, puts their lifts on the high watermark of lift design. The installation of the lift was wisely entrusted to Messrs. Holben, Hubbard, and Co., Ltd., who from their long and unique engineering experience could be relied upon to carry put this section of the contract with success.
The plastering work on the Commercial Buildings contract was carried out in a thorough businesslike way by Mr. T. Was?, of Palmerston North, and his staff of experts.
