WOOL CRUTCHING SALE.
The first of the sales of cnitchings for ] the season -was held at the Dominion J Farmers' Institute- yesterday afternoon, a total catalogue o£ 2146 bales being offered. J There was a large attendance of 'buyers. -, The following firms sold: New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 306 bales, Wairarapa Farmers 169, Murray, Roberts, and John- < ston and Co. 277, Farmers' Distributing ,( Co. 252, Dalgety and Co. 328, Levin and ; Co. 550, Abraham and ■ Williams, and i 1 Wright, Stephenson,' and-Co. 264. From i brokers' reports it is learned that buyers' ] present represented Bradford, the Contin- , ent, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand J woollen manufacturing and fellmongery in- ' terests. Local scourers found it difficult to compete with overseas-buyers. Merinos and halfbrods were in short supply", selling ' up to U%d. Japan and New Zealand -1 Woollen Mills bought at lOd and lid for ] best lota of crossbreds. The bulk sold at 1 8d to 9d and lower grades and seedy 6d to SVid. The official range of prices was as 7 follows :~Merino crutchings IOWd to llKd, ] halfbred 7Hd to HHdy pieces and bellies 7 s*<d to 12d. locks and stained pieces 3%d to 7d, crutchings superior crossbred lOd to ( ll%d, crutchings medium good crossbred 1 8d to lOd, crutchings seedy and inferior i 4>/4d to B%d, lambs 9V4d: to 14J4d, dead , 7 J/*d to 15% d. ..->> 1
