RUGBY LEAGUE
RESIDENTIAL CLAUSE
Strong exception was taken by members of the Management Committee of the Wellington Bugby League Centre last evening, to the recent action of the English League Council in lifting the two years' residential clause in the transfer of colonial players. The delegate front the Beferees' Association expressed the opinion that this was the most dangerous action taken by the English body as it would tend to drain the colonies of all their best players. %n the other hand it was argued by a member, who has represented New Zealand, that a transfer fee would tempt onty the exceptional player; It was not fair, he said, to penalise any man for taking financial returns for natural .ability. The general opinion was that the code in general would suffer as the result of lifting the clause, and the following motion was passed with only one dissentient: "That this centre strongly protests against the lifting, of the residential clause, nrid that the ruling body in New' Zealand take whatever action possible to combat this . clause." . .. ■
