THEFT FROM EMPLOYER

CHEISTCHURCH, This Day. "It seems that the thefts were committed purely to pay a man out, and in view of the fact that tho accused's record is otherwise good, I shall suppress his name," said Mr. Lawry, when a man; aged 21, appeared on two charges of theft from his employer. Chief-Detective Lewis Bald that the accused was evidently under tho im* pression that ho had been unfairly treated by his employer, a farmer, and he returned to the faun to get his own back. He" had stolen a suitcase, a shotgun, and cartridges, of a total value of £10 14s 6d. He had not taken them away but had left them nearby and they had been recovered. After the.Probation Officer had made his report, the Magistrate admitted the accused to probation for one year.
