RAILWAY OFFICERS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The annual conference of the Railway Officers Institute will open in the Dominion Farmers' Institute Conference Koran on Thursday morning. The following will comprise the conference:—President, Mr. V. R, J. Stanley; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. R. S. Skinner (Auckland) W. A. Finlayson (Wellington^ and J. J. M'Aloon (Canterbury); treasurer, Mr. L. Barclay (Wellington); general secretary and editor, Mr. K. Hampton (Wellington); delegates representing branches, Messrs. N. 15. Whisker (Auckland), M. E. Carroll (South Auckland), H. Johanson (Main' Trunk), L. V. Carmine (Wanganui), K. D. Croft (Hawkes Bay), J. W. Pergie (Palmerston Horth), W: F. Gill (Wellington), J. S. Boscoe (North Canterbury), G. D. Smart (Westland), J. A. Thompson (South Canterbury), J. Duncan (North Olago), T. D. Webster (Otago), T. Jliller (Southland). The annual report and balance-sheet to be submitted to the conference shows a substantial increase of membership over the previous year, and the financial income is easily a record, the assets having increased by over £800 during the year. The most important questions to be disccussed by-;the conference .are the report o£ the Regrading Committee and the system of advertising vacant positions. The executive committee will also seek authority from the conference to proceed with the erection of new buildings on the site of the institute's present building in Mulgrave street.
