PROTEST IN WEST AUSTRALIA

IsW Zealand has brought a protest from- the West Australian Institute of Surrey-Drs and the president of the New Zealand Institute states that the men' accepted the positions in ignorance o* theeonditions obtaining in the State. The Neiv Zealand body has been informed by tha: West Australian president that gurvev. ors here had refused the positions bn the salary offered, which lately has been' reduced below the minimum paid-in other States. Australian■ Government have been offered to New Zealand surveyors. lam directed by my'institute to inform you that cablegrams have been received recently from the institute in Perth indicating that- their survoyors have declined these positions as insufficiently: paid under locali condi-J nous, and arb endeavouring to .r'aiee the status _ of the profession.';- .The cables indicate their disappointment at the acceptance by New Zealanders of the offer. We have cabled for fuller particulars, but meanwhile it ,is thought that you may be glad to know these particulars, which have not been hitherto reported to the New Zealand authorities.
