NORTHANTS NOTES

After their decisive defeat of Worcostershire, the New Zealanders have made quto a promising start against Northamptonshire, who last- siason from_a_playing.point of view, was disappointing In this year's campaign hope to improve greatly on their record. The same professionals are engaged this season, and the ground staff has been considerably increased by some promising young players. All last year's amateurs are on hand with the exception of J. E. Timms, who is now on the ground staff. It was hoped at the start of the season that P. A Wright, who played really well two years ago, would occasionally be able to assist.

The county is practically at full strength for the match with New Zea- ■ and. V W. C. Jupp is, of course, the best cricketer on the side, with C. N W olley a good second. A. C. L. Wills late of Harrow, is looked upon as one' of the most promising members of the side.

L. C. Blunt has evidently benefited by the recent spell, his all-round performance in this match being exceptionally fine. It is noted also'that K. 0 ■lames is maintaining his fine wicketkeeping record.

Those standing down from the New Zealand team in this match are C S Dempster (suffering from a sprained shoulder), M. Henderson, and W Cunningham.

Ihe maU:h is being'continued to-day and will be concluded to-morrow, after winch the Xew Zealanders will meet Leicestershire.
